Story
Morton Games
Three frenetic hours under Morton Stadium lights with a camera, a long lens, and a long list of athletes to cover.
Morton Games is a furnace. The first call echoes across Santry and every athlete is instantly on the clock — coaches whisper splits, volunteers shepherd athletes, and the stadium public address makes heroes of the next heat.
I ran a two-camera setup: the 35-150mm for trackside finish-line emotion and an 35mm prime for portraits in the mixed zone. Between races I shot team embraces, final instructions, and quiet breaths taken on the warm-up track.
The magic is the light. Dublin’s Northside sky glimmers in twilight, fading to navy and the floodlights saturate everything in silver. The meet becomes monochrome, and the only colour comes from spikes, kit, and the sponsor signage flashing in the background.
